This is a voluntary position that would suit a young Christian who wants to begin a career in residential ministry / service / catering. We offer you board and lodging, a monthly expenses allowance, half a day study-leave per week and we would cover all relevant training costs as well as provide kitchen clothing / equipment and other PPE.
We are offering the position of Volunteer Trainee Cook to someone who is a committed Christian and who wants to develop a career in hospitality, whilst at the same time serving our guests. All staff are committed Christians and seek to live their lives in accordance with Biblical principles. You will be working alongside our cooks and House Manager, as well as other team members throughout your time with us.
CMC is offering the Trainee Cook a food production course which runs for 12 months. This is a work-based course and an assessor would visit the workplace every 4-6 weeks to ensure the relevant criteria is being met and to assist with the completion of your portfolio of evidence.
Each Trainee Cook will be supported throughout the course by a structured programme of teaching, e-learning, face-to-face training and workplace mentoring; this will encourage and help them to meet the requirements of the new standards and will prepare them for the assessment.
What you will be doing:
The key role of the Trainee Cook is to provide home cooked meals to our groups who come and stay with us
To cook breakfast and tidy up afterwards
To attend all NVQ sessions and to complete your portfolio work
To use fresh ingredients to prepare home cooked meals according to the menu
To work safely with and around kitchen equipment
To keep the kitchens clean, tidy and hygienic at all times by completing various regular cleaning duties
To ensure that food is prepared in accordance with CMC Adventure hygiene procedures and that the Better Food Safety book is filled in correctly
To be able to follow instructions and be supervised
To fulfil any other duties as requested by the House Manager / Centre Director
