CMC Adventure is a traditionally structured, but progressive outdoor education centre which uses the natural, rugged outdoor environment for our adventure and learning experiences. We have worked with primary schools, secondary schools and colleges since 1966; providing both multi-activity and specific courses.  We allow students to explore an environment which is outside of their normal circumstances and provide them with the opportunity to achieve more than they expect through potentially life changing experiences.  This can include a wide range of prospects for growth and development for individuals, and for the group as a whole. We take a great deal of pride in what we have to offer, and we do what we do because we love it!

Groups have found our outdoor education residential courses to be of particular value, helping to encourage and enthuse group members, building:

  • Self esteem
  • Interdependence
  • Group cohesion
  • Mutual respect

Leaders have seen an improvement in their members' co-operation, independence and receptiveness to mention just a few of the benefits.

We provide students with many opportunities to experience success and to celebrate their achievements.  In support of this, we can build on your CMC adventure – rewarding and encouraging your group with nationally recognised certificates of achievement, all attainable within a multi-activity residential. These include:

  • National Navigation Award Scheme: Young Navigator Bronze, Silver or Gold Star Awards – Ages 8 to 14
  • Dinghy Sailing Taster Certificate
  • Youth Sailing Scheme - Ages 8 to 18
  • Paddle Power Start Achievement Certificate - Ages 8 to 15

In addition to the above, why not enrich your CMC Adventure experience with Explore? Explore is a fully referenced, National Curriculum linked educational resource for key stages 2 and 3. It has been created to encourage your young adventurers to explore, discover, conserve and share their experiences with each other and further afield. The resource supports the John Muir Award and is specifically written for CMC Adventure and our locality. Our instructional staff can tailor specific sessions to incorporate Explore activities and work with teachers to deliver an educational adventure!

Safety and Risk Management

At CMC Adventure, we take the responsibility of safety and risk management very seriously. All of our staff are appropriately qualified for the activities they lead. We are inspected by the National Governing Bodies (see below) and meet their stringent standards. We have an AALA licence (Registration number L10638/R0191) covering the following activities; kayaking, canoeing, paddle surfing, improvised rafting, sailing, paddle boarding, rock climbing, abseiling, sea level traversing, gorge scrambling, hill walking and mountaineering (summer conditions only). Licence details can be confirmed by calling the Licensing Service on: Tel 029 2075 5715. We employ the services of highly qualified and experienced “Technical Advisors” from outside of the centre who inspect and support our onsite team and facilities. Risk assessments are carried out for all activities and they are reviewed on a regular basis. Copies of risk assessments and operating procedures are available on request from the office.
